Not Being Able to Repay My Student Loans

Postby goodtimes » Mon May 04, 2009 11:40 pm

Hi there,

I was hoping that there might be someone out there who has been through my situation or knows of someone who has. I am a recent medical graduate who has been out of school since 2008 and am now faced with the situation of having to repay my student loans back in a matter of 3 weeks as my 12 month grace period is about to come to an end. I am a FMG who is Canadian and has American loans through American Education Services (i.e. Bank of America, Cangrad loans and Wochovia loans). I have these loans with my family, namely my sister and father as my co-borrowers.

I have tried to look for some part-time work for over 6 months now but have unsuccessful. On a side note, Most of my days are spent studying for my USMLE STEP 2 CK exam which I need to pass in order to start residency come 2010. I have taken this exam 3 times already and have gotten scores of 42, 46 and my most recent grade has not been posted. I know that I am really far from the passing grade for this exam but I will pass it this year no matter how many attempts it takes. I have left a very great impression on all my seniors while as I student and for that they are willing to hold a spot for me in their program pending a passing grade on this exam. With that said, all that should be on my mind is to constantly study, study and study so that I can get on with my life which has been put on hold for over 10 years now.

As far as my loans are concerned, I have to repay close to $2500 a month until the start of my internship as at that time I will be able to defer these payments. However, what to do until then is the issue. Alot of time needs to be invested in order for me to pass this exam as I have been really far off the first 2 times already and so I can only work part time. However, the problem right now is that no one is hiring even for part time work. I don't want these loan companies bothering my family as they are signed on as my co-signers. If we had the money we would pay them back but during this time we are barely making house payments and so asking us to repay $2500 per month is really too difficult.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance from anyone out there as far as my situation.

Thank you so much,

Adnan

It is really hard to find or produce money in order to pay so many Loans you have applied. Besides the interest it makes you have to pay for the main Loan you have acquired. I can suggest that you may take or apply for a Loan Consolidation Program it will make all Loans or debt summed up to make it only one Loan but lower interest in payment.

Whenever I read financial aids/loans, I get to remember Fannie Mae which has posted a substantial profit and promises to not take one more dime in federal resources. If anyone is in dire need for a quick cash fortunately, you still have access to payday loans to cover things or visit Match Financial. :)
