DV visa and USMLE

Postby palfiata » Thu May 19, 2011 8:20 am

Hi ! Maybe this is stupid question, but I'd like to know what Is the situation in my case if I'd like to get through the USMLE process. The point is that I am a 49 year old surgeon and accidentally won a DV
visa which means that I have to live some time yearly in the U.S. A kind of "half foreign" status. My question is that what steps do I have to take on this "licencing maze" in a situation like this. First ECFMG? or maybe some other way? Thank You,and sorry again if it is obvious to anybody but me!

I don't think this will have any impact on your USMLE or ECFMG certification. Always indicate your current status and update it as it changes.

Thank you! I thought it was the right process."Nota bene" I do not believe it would worth it to me. If I count right it takes at minimum 8 years to become a "new" qualified surgeon in my 57-58 years of age :) ,after 25 years experience. And the top of these I'm in a a chief position -head of the department for 8 years. Everything is good in the right time and space. :)
Thanx anyway!
